Habits of the folks
This is just a list of some habits we've observed over the years. Now, please remember we love our folks. In our family, love is shown by some serious teasing. You know - the kind you can only do with love - everyone else would see it as something else. Example of this is when my sister Nancy said (while watching the Wizard of Oz), "If Judy Garland wasn't dead, would she still be alive?" We never let her forget she said that, and even though she isn't with us anymore, one of the things we remember about her is that she said that...(teased even in death).
Remember now, Dad doesn't like mayo. So, Casey and I are visiting in FL some years ago. We went to some hamburg place that was outside there right at closing time. Dad places the order - our burgers (all regular with everything, of course), then says what he wants on his. The kid at the counter reads the order off, Dad says, "Now remember NO MAYO". The kid cooking (obviously stoned) says, "NO MAYO?" and repeats himself about 10 more times, laughing hysterically to the point where he fell on the floor. Casey, Mom and I are also finding this very funny...Dad is not. He then yelled to the cook kid, "I'M ALLERGIC", which set the kid off all over again.
What do you think was on his burger? It is FL, after all.
Mom has her own funny habit...we haven't seen it as much as in the past, but she continues to do this. She was always the adventure driven parent...she went water skiing when 9 months pregnant with me, in the Housatonic River. Dad tells her to do something, "Come on, Irene, drink some more water" for example. Mom used to tell him to "F@#K OFF"...now she just makes a horrible smooshy face and says, "Do I have to?" Mom comes up with the funniest lines once in a while, and we all remember her sense of fun and fearlessness. We still occasionally see some of that (especially when she swears!). Miah can get her going pretty easily, by offering her a ride on his bike.
I know this was about habits, but it's also about what starts to go missing over the years...
