Getting up to date
It's been a bit nuts here at Chez Rozarie. Some changes happening with one more chick out of the nest, and a bit of hospitalism going on.
Mom had her surgery on Monday morning. It was a bit more invasive than originally planned, but she is recuperating. Much better today than she was yesterday with regard to her mind, although today she is in some pain where the bypass stuff went in (yup - the groin and her thigh). Covered stents don't just go into cardiac areas - they also go into subclavian arteries (who knew?). Probably a good thing to keep on eating all those good foods to get your cholesterol in line, people. You just never can tell where that nasty plaque is going to dam up your artery.
So, got home yesterday, pulled into the driveway around 4:30 p.m. One chick had kindly walked the puppy (who am I kidding? Puppy????), and was just leaving. Looked at the phone and Dad had left a message that they were on their way home from the hospital. I had been hoping that they were home and had run out to the store. That way I could enjoy the house alone for just a little while longer...
Of course, it was not to be. And that's OK. I had just enough time to use the facilities when I heard the van pull into the driveway. Yes, Dad is allowed to be in the driveway this week. Mom practically jumped out of the van when I opened the door.
"How are you doing, Mom?"
"I'm super, how are you?"
"Well, you just had surgery - you feeling alright? No pain or anything?"
"What are you talking about? I didn't have surgery."
"Where are you coming home from? The hospital, Ma."
"Oh, well, maybe."
She practically ran into the freakin' house, I had to yell to Dad to watch her as she went up the steps as she looked just a bit spacey and off (more than usual, you know?).
Figured I'd better stick around and make sure all was settled and Dad was alright too. I know it isn't easy for him to be with her all the time. He's a talker (where do you think I get it from???), and can get backed up with his needs to talk when he's only around Mom.
Settling in for some family time, I made sure their favorite channel was on so they could watch Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. After the first few minutes of Alex and the contestants, Dad says, "Wow, they're all pretty stupid tonight." Yes, he said it. Mom laughed out loud as she was trying to sneak half her roast beef sandwich to Santana (the puppy...).
The food sneaking thing is a bit of a problem. I know I've said it before...
They stayed in front of the tube till about 8:30. NCIS is a must, even when it is a double rerun (I know I saw that one two times before last night - when Ducky falls for the crazy woman killer who was a Charlie's Angel). Fortunately, both were tired and headed for bed.
Today, sat in a stress reliever/dealing with change workshop at work...was asked to come up with a stressor, and then come up with one way to make that stressor less stressful...Also had to draw pictures of how I feel when stressed, then how I feel when not stressed...and then list a few ways to deal with stress and change...I only needed a few words - Laugh, Breathe.
